County Road 348 in Concan, TX, or what’s commonly known to the locals & tourists as “River Road” is one of the major “Hot Spots” in the Frio Canyon Area. Actually, the asphalt stretch has quite a few “Hot Spots” where folks come to lodge, camp, swim, fish, tube/kayak, lounge, and enjoy the serene natural landscaping of the Texas Hill Country and The Frio River Canyon. Many fall in love with the Frio during their stay and end up buying a place of their own to call "Home."
CR 348 also offers everything a visitor or local needs including accommodations for Lodging, RV/Tent Sites, Tubes/Kayaks, Stores, Real Estate, Restaurants, Swimming Holes, a Golf Course, and even a Helicopter Ride!
If you are not from these parts, you can easily miss the entrances to CR 348 (River Road); even many local folks are unaware of the route- including our family until a few years ago. If you drive on River Road throughout the week or weekend, you'll see similar gatherings at the crossings as in the above/right photo. Frio Bounders bring their tubes, floats, lawn chairs, canopies, ice chests, sunscreen and set up camp on the Frio Sidelines for the day.
It's hard to beat The Frio and shady Cypress Trees when the Texas Sun is near 100 degree temperatures. Fortunately, River Road has all the antidotes for the heat and other ailments.
Besides the gifts of the Frio River, the Frio Canyon Area around CR 348 offers The Famous Garner State Park, unique antique/thrift shops, rolling hills/valleys, panoramic sunset views, and pure serenity of just being there. People from all over Texas, the Country and even World seek The Frio everyday because they have heard of it's absolute beauty and peacefulnes.
